First annual Daniel Pinkham Award goes to Sanford SylvanCoro Allegro has established the Daniel Pinkham Award, to be given annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to classical choral music and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. The inaugural award will be presented at the February 23rd concert to world-renowned bass-baritone Sanford Sylvan, who established his career during his years in Boston and who returns often to sing with Coro Allegro and other local groups. Daniel Pinkham
Commissioned and premiered by Coro Allegro in 1996, this work sets
text by the wildly inventive 18th century poet Christopher Smart,
and ranges in mood from solemn and reverential to frolicky, languorous, and rousing.
