  GALA Choruses Festival 2008

Coro Allegro to Perform in Miami
at Festival for GLBT Choruses

In July, Coro Allegro will perform for the fourth time at GALA, the choral festival for GLBT choruses worldwide that is held every four years. This year's festival will be held in Miami, Florida. More than 130 choruses and ensembles are scheduled to perform during the week-long festival.

The members of Coro Allegro are excited about their upcoming participation in this summer's GALA festival. Please come and celebrate the GLBT choral movement — and Coro's presence in it — at our May 18 concert.

GALA Choruses Festival Send-Off Concert

Coro Allegro at its best!

In anticipation of our participating in the GALA festival, and in celebration of the GLBT choral movement, our May 18 concert will first focus on the accompanied and a cappella repertoire we will perform at the festival. The second half of the concert will feature spirituals, jazz, and gospel music by 20th century composers.

Composer MacMillan on Cantos Sagrados

James MacMillan

"I hope Cantos Sagrados touches a shared humanity in people regardless of political background. I think in that sense the arts transcend political and theological barriers, cultural barriers. And if something in art and music — even though it comes from a specific worldview or a specific experience of life — if it nevertheless touches someone and provokes a common shared sense of humanity and a common sense of grace, then I think an artistic success has been made as well as a spiritual and even ethical success."
