Sonja DuToit Tengblad • Soprano

sonja_tengblad_color.jpgSoprano Sonja DuToit Tengblad has appeared as a featured soloist with A Far Cry, the Boston Philharmonic, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Baroque, the Handel and Haydn Society, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Minnesota’s Bach Roots Festival, and recently checked Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center off the bucket list with the New York City Chamber Orchestra. In addition to her independently curated projects Modern Dickinson and Beat Song, ensemble singing is a cornerstone of her career. She sings with the Grammy-nominated Lorelei Ensemble, Emmanuel Music, Blue Heron, Cut Circle, and the Grammy-winning ensemble Conspirare (which makes her mom very proud). After her son was born in 2017, she had a minor existential meltdown and founded Beyond Artists and Mothers Out Front East Boston. She teaches at Wellesley College and Harvard University. For this concert’s Beyond Artist pledge, and as a native Minnesotan, she is contributing to the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund.

Hyunju Jung • Piano

hyunju_jung2.jpegHyunju Jung is a highly accomplished pianist with a distinguished academic background and an extensive international performance career. Dr. Jung has earned numerous prestigious awards in both Asia and the United States, including the absolute first prize in the Special Venue Music Award, the Silver prize in The 2025 Shanghai International Forte Yearly Music Festival and Competition, Second Prize in the Royal Mass International Competition. She has performed as an invited artist at Seongnam Art Hall, Rode Art Center, and Moonam Center in Korea. Her remarkable performance achievements include a solo appearance with the Perugia Piano Festival Orchestra at the renowned Perugia Hall of Notaries in Italy, Carnegie Hall, San Francisco Opera House, Gallery Inn in Puerto Rico, and the Steinway & Sons Scottsdale, Arizona, further solidifying her reputation as a distinguished artist on the international stage. Her artistic development has been significantly shaped by master classes with some of the world’s most respected pianists, including Ian Hobson, Robert Roux, Jerome Lowenthal, Joseph Rackers, Mia Chung, Martin Katz, and Sasha Starcevich. These invaluable experiences have deepened her interpretive insight and elevated her technical prowess. Dr. Jung received Doctoral of Musical Arts in Piano Performance at Boston University, where she studies under the tutelage of Professor Boaz Sharon. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and dual Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan. Her mentors include Gila Goldstein, Sharon Mann, Arthur Greene, Mack McCray, and Kuy Jung Kim. Alongside her academic pursuits, Dr. Jung remains a vital force in the music community, serving as the collaborative pianist for the highly regarded Coro Allegro, New England Classical Singers, the Bristol Chorale of Massachusetts, Commonwealth School, and the Arlington Street Church, where her collaborative artistry enriches each ensemble’s performance.

Sarita Uranovsky • Violin

sarita_uranovsky.pngSarita Uranovsky has enjoyed an exceptionally active and diverse career as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and teacher. Ms. Uranovsky has appeared as a soloist with the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra (USA), the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (South Africa), and the Tufts Symphony Orchestra in tours of Italy, Costa Rica and Slovenia. She performs in her native South Africa frequently as a soloist and recitalist. Ms. Uranovsky was Concertmaster with Orchestra Geminiani de Fallonica (Italy), the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Symphony Orchestra, and Assistant Concertmaster with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra (USA). Ms. Uranovsky performs regularly with the Boston Philharmonic, Boston Ballet, Cantata Singers, Boston Pops, and Emmanuel Music. She appeared in concert for Prince Charles and Princess Anna at the church of St-Martin-in- the-Fields. Ms. Uranovsky is the recipient of the Ellie Marx Memorial and DuToit van Tonder Scholarships, and was silver medalist and University of Natal prize winner at the SASOL Music Competition (South Africa). Ms. Uranovsky serves on faculty at Tufts University and the MIT Emerson Scholarship Program; she also maintains a private teaching studio. Ms. Uranovsky holds an Artist Diploma from Boston University and a Bachelors and Masters (Cum Laude) from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Jan Halloran • Clarinet

jan_halloran.jpgPraised for her “soulful intensity,” clarinetist Jan Halloran is a fixture of Boston’s vibrant musical landscape, performing with opera, orchestral, and chamber ensembles throughout the region. She is Principal Clarinetist of Boston Lyric Opera and Odyssey Opera, and a member of the Grammy Award–winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP). Additional performance credits include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet, and Boston Landmarks Orchestra. An accomplished chamber musician, Ms. Halloran is a member of the Boston Conservatory faculty woodwind quintet and performs regularly in the Conservatory’s Artistry in Action faculty concert series. She has also collaborated with Collage New Music, the Radius Ensemble, and the Walden Chamber Players. A devoted teacher and mentor, she serves on the faculties of Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Dartmouth College, inspiring students through collaborative music-making and focused, immersive guidance. Ms. Halloran earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and her Master of Music degree from Boston University, studying with Michael Webster, and pursued further studies with Thomas Martin.

Eugene Kim • Cello

eugene_kim.pngCellist Eugene Kim is the 2019 recipient of the Jean Stackhouse Award for Excellence in Teaching at NEC Prep. His students have performed concerti with the Boston Symphony (under Andris Nelsons), the Boston Pops (under Keith Lockhart), the Youth Philharmonic and Youth Symphony Orchestras at NEC Prep, as well as numerous Boston area orchestras. An avid chamber musician and solo recitalist, cellist Eugene has given solo performances throughout Korea, England, Italy, and his native United States, including such venues as Carnegie Recital Hall and Jordan Hall. An active Boston-area performer, he has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as an extra player, as well as the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. Eugene has been guest principal cellist with the Boston Philharmonic, Boston Classical Orchestra and the Pro Arte Chamber Ensemble. Formerly, he was the principal cellist of the Vermont Symphony. From 2002-2005, Eugene served as the Artistic Director of Project STEP, a string training organization devoted to developing Boston area African-American and Latino music students. Recently, he completed a term as Executive Director of the Foulger International Music Festival. Eugene received his A.B. magna cum laude with highest honors from Harvard University, and a master’s degree from New England Conservatory. He has studied with cellists Andres Diaz, Colin Carr, Laurence Lesser, and Carter Brey.
